How to apply for International Training at CLAA
For students wishing to come to Canada to do only a Private Pilot License, a Student Visa is not required. However for those traveling from certain countries, a Visitor Visa may be required. Maximum stay on a Visitor Visa is 6 months and it can only be renewed by leaving the country and re-entering Canada. YOU CAN NOT WORK ON A VISITOR VISA IN CANADA.
For students doing other courses other than just a private license (example private, commercial and Multi Instrument Rating), you would be required to obtain a Student Visa to train in Canada. With a Student Visa, you can work unrestricted on campus providing a position is available and you apply for it. Alternatively you can work up to 20 hours per week off campus. Questions regarding this should be directed to Service Canada or Citizenship and Immigration Canada at www.cic.gc.ca or www.servicecanada.gc.ca.
This process starts by indicating when you would like to start. A letter of acceptance must be issued by the authorized official at the school. The cost of this would be a $25.00 non refundable administration fee plus the cost of shipment via UPS or FedEx. This can be paid by Visa or MasterCard. Once you arrive at the school to commence training, the cost of shipment for your letter, not including the $25.00 administration fee, will be credited to your flying account to use towards the cost of your rating or license.
Once you receive the letter from the school, it is the student’s responsibility to apply in the designated time frame for a Student Visa at their local Canadian Embassy or Consulate General. There are processing fees associated with that in which would be billed by the Government of Canada. For information regarding this please contact your local Canadian Embassy or Consulate.
Upon arrival into Canada, you will arrive to be taken to our student housing by a representative from the school. You will arrive to find that you will have a personalized training plan made by your designated instructor as well as an orientation with your instructor reviewing the study material and what to expect from the course.
Three things that are mandatory within the first few days of your arrival will be obtaining either a Class 1 or 3 Medical Certificate from a authorized Transport Canada Doctor. Your appointment will be made once you confirm your arrival to Canada. Second, an English Language proficiency exam is required for all pilots which can be administered at our academy. Finally a Radio License must be obtained by completing a short written exam which also can be done right at the academy. After this is complete, you are ready to fly.
At Cooking Lake Aviation Academy we believe every student shall succeed through our dedicated instructors, proven track record and proven student success rate. The staff are here to help your dreams become a reality and we will do everything we can to ensure you are successful. Should you have any questions about applying you can contact us at anytime and our Administration Department would be happy to assist you.
