COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE

 

This license requires a minimum of 200 hours total time, including the hours logged toward your Private Licence (PPL). The course is 65 hours and will improve upon the skills acquired in the PPL. In addition, it will give you advanced instrument flight training and a night rating. Build-up time will be accumulated during your training.

 

TRANSPORT CANADA REQUIREMENTS:

 

It is recommended that you be a High School Graduate or Equivalent. Potential students not meeting this recommendation will be individually assessed.

 

Must have a working knowledge of the English language.

 

Must pass a Transport Canada Category I MEDICAL exam.

 

Must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or lawfully admitted to Canada for the purpose of flight training.

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age to obtain the licence, however, you may start your training before your 18th birthday.

 

Must possess a Private Pilot Licence.

 

GROUND SCHOOL

 

C.L.A.A. offers an 80 hour Commerical Ground School, our next ground school will start February 15th 2011 and run Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm to 9pm. Minimum ground school hours for the Commercial Licence is 80 hours.

EXAMINATION PREREQUISITES

Prior to taking a written examination, an applicant for a flight crew permit, licence or rating shall meet the prerequisites for the examination set out in the personnel licensing standards with respect to CAR 401.13(1)

  1. medical fitness;
  2. identification;
  3. a recommendation from the flight instructor who is responsible for the training of the applicant; and
  4. experience.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the Commercial Pilot Licence in the Aeroplane Category shall demonstrate their knowledge by writing a Transport Canada multiple choice examination. Applicants must be able to read the examination questions in either English or French without assistance.

CLAA Requirements:

Upon completion of the ground school, students will be given three sample examinations that require an overall mark of 80% or better before attempting the Transport Canada written examination.

A recommending letter is required to write the Transport Canada CPAER Exam, the CLAA flight instructor will not provide a recommending letter unless the required ground school hour requirement is met and the candidate has demonstrated the sample examination proficiency level as stated above.

 

LICENCING REQUIREMENTS:

 

200 hours total time, of which 100 must be pilot in command including 20 hours cross-country pilot in command time. (subclause I)

 

65 of those hours from above consisting of the following (subclause II):

  • 35 hours dual instruction flight time, under the direction and supervision of the holder of a Flight Instructor Rating — Aeroplane, including
  • 5 hours night, including a minimum of 2 hours of cross-country flight time; and
  • 5 hours cross-country, which may include the cross-country experience; and 
  • 20 hours of instrument flight time in addition to the experience stated in subclauses (I) and (II). A maximum 10 hours of the 20 hours may be conducted on an approved aeroplane simulator or synthetic flight training device.
 

30 hours solo flight time including:

  • 25 hours solo flight time emphasizing the improvement of general flying skills of the applicant which shall include a cross-country flight to a point of a minimum of 300 nautical mile radius from the point of departure and shall include a minimum of 3 landings at points other than that of departure; and
  • 5 hours solo flight time by night during which a minimum of 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings were completed.
 

A minimum of 80 hours of ground school as outlined above.
